Time to REFLECT
Looking towards the future
Diagramming
In future, more emphasis on diagramming to communicate ideas. My presentation lacked the right diagrams to communicate sustainability ideas for the future proposal.
Auto-CAD
All plans, sections, and elevations need to be done in Auto CAD. Hand drawing the plans read poorly... and lacks the punch computer plans present.
Rendering
Experiment rendering hand drawings using water colour
Office Modules
Office Modules
The office modules were given a rating out of 3, according to 3 different categories; Capacity (how many people can use them at one time), Privacy (how private are they), Acoustic (what are the acoustic qualities of the modules). If a module had good privacy it was given a 3, if it had poor acoustic qualities it was given a 1 etc.Crit FEEDBACK:
More consideration needed to be taken to insure the modules adhered to their given rating. Some modules appear to have different privacy and acoustic ratings despite being of a similar design. i should have taken more time to draw the modules accurately to represent what ratings i wanted the module to achieve.
WiFi Dependency
The success of the space relies heavily on the public's access to WiFi. WiFi is necessary in the space for the interactive screens to be of use to people.
The proposal would advertise free WiFi for the first 30 minutes to help activate the space. A Go-Fi would be used in a similar fashion to that of a Go-card... after 30 minutes has expired, money would then be deducted from the card depending on how long you use the internet for.

Focus on Sustainability
Wiki: Sustainability is the capacity to endure through renewal, maintenance, and sustenance, or nourishment, in contrast to durability, the capacity to endure through unchanging resistance to change.
Sustainable Design...
Green Space in Urban Environments: Raising the street edge to re-discover green space in Urban Environments. Green space can attract wildlife as well as contributing to de-sensitize our concrete/steel Urban fabric
Solar Power. Produce enough energy so the entity doesn't need external power, and if possible sell energy back to the grid, or be used to power Myer Centre.
Water Catchment. The raised street edge is utilized as a sink to catch rainwater and water runoff from the Myer centre. Water can be used for greenery and to flush toilets in Myer Centre.

Connection with Myer Center
Whilst doing research for retail refurbishment projects, i stumbled across this proposal by FREAKS freearchitects
FREAKS freeachitects were commission for the interior design of a new natural cosmetics brand called Heliocosm.
I really like the contrast in material. For my entity, specifically my office modules, i had envisioned a contrast between wood-iron.. OR wood-concrete. The hallway of wood tunnels from room to room, almost intrusively. This feat is somewhat similar to what i am aiming to do with my entity and its connection with the Myer center

Breaking down Work Spaces
Work Modules 1 & 2
Rather then having a universal office module, i have designed each module to adhere to a set checklist of components, important to the success of an office space.
These components include, and are not limited to the following;
- Capacity; each module is designed to cater for a x amount of people
- Acoustic; each module has an acoustic rating 1-5 (5 being the best acoustic level)
- Privacy; each module has a privacy rating between 1-5 (5 being the most privacy level)
- Size: is irrevocably linked to capacity
It is important to note the success of the modules will be highly dependent on the interactive touch screen technology (posted earlier in the blog).
Work Modules 3 & 4
Modules will also vary in seating capacity, which is dependent on the type of office work that will take place. Some modules will be for on the go jobs. Others will require space to sit down and talk with a client, or overseas correspondent.
Work Module 5
As a method of trying to design the architectural entity, i could introduce a hierarchy of spaces to coordinate with the office module privacy/acoustic ratings. For example, the section diagram above looks into placing modules with higher privacy/acoustic ratings, higher on the facade. Modules that do not require high privacy/acoustic levels could be placed on the park level of the entity.
Re-Fine Brief
SCRIPT
An architectural proposal through a creative as well as logically and realistically constructed series of events in the form of a factitious story.
STAGE
An architectural entity that works. Your story should be constructed so that it best describes the most important aspects of your proposal as well as your proposal should be a response to the future contexts that you are to communicate in your story.
SCENES
Communicate the value and relevance of your architectural proposal. They can be best described as specific scenes in your Architecture Fiction.
Site: The Myer Center Facade on Elizabeth Street.
Proposal: To re-furbish an existing building, rather then erecting a new building. Reasons for this include; refurbishment consumes far less energy that that required to erect a new building; The Myer Center functions adequately; Working with a building facade provides interesting challenges to building form, structure, circulation, and aesthetics; Layering over our existing streets scapes provides opportunity to re-capture green space in urban areas.
Architectural Entity: Teared form that layers over Elizabeth street, and attaches to the Myer Center Facade. The entity en-captures green space, circulation that flows from the Myer Center into, public exterior park space. The space is activated by a multitude of office modules of different sizes, acoustic and privacy components. Interactive touch screens (identified in project 1) are used as a tool of connecting our work environments with others all over the world.
Concept: People will take their work with them. Not only will people be able to conduct work on the move, but people will have more flexible work hours that adapt to peoples lifestyles.
Work and Play, Concept Exploration
Adaptable and Modular Work spaces
The sketch above looks into modular and adaptable spaces that function differently according to the time of day. The module would sit in the middle of queen street, designed to be moved, stacked and manipulated by the user group. The space can fold into a compact rectilinear form when not being used. Inspiration was taken from the factory home example i posted earlier in the blog.
Diagramming using Elizabeth Street Section
The site i am going to explore for my architectural fiction is the Myer Center facade on Elizabeth street. Above i have explored using a teared form to layer over the street. The space would explore the relationship between work and play, as well as discovering new opportunities for public parks in Brisbane's CBD.
Diagramming Interior/Exterior Relationships
The challenging part of this proposal is to accurately explore and design the entity to enhance circulation from Elizabeth street, through teared form of the architectural structure, as well as considering its connection with the Myer center Facade on both an internal and external component.

Play to Work Transition
The sketch above provides a rough idea of the transition between work and play i have been exploring.
Tutor Feedback: proposal will be less about the concept of work and play.

First Person Experience
For the final presentation, i am going to use a story board format to communicate my architectural entity. i intend to hand draw all aspects of the proposal and photo shop images to the same standard as the previous presentation. i am unsure as to whether the perspectives will be one-point, or a mixture of one and two-point perspectives.
I am exploring the concept of filtering each perspective using glasses. The goal being to personalize the presentation, and imprint a personality and identity to the person whom experiences the entity.
.
This also gives me the opportunity to view the space through several characters by using different glasses frames/lens. For examples, pink flower glasses could signify a young girl.
Above is an example i have edited from project 1. Using a combination of colour and black and white, the perspective demands attention to particular elements of the scene.
